Frequently asked questions
Do my files get uploaded to a server?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser; your file never leaves your device.
Which compression level should I pick?
Start with Medium for most use cases. Use Light if the PDF is already small or you want to preserve every original byte. Pick Heavy only when you need major size reduction and don't need the text to remain selectable.
Why does Heavy compression lose text selectability?
Heavy mode rasterizes each page to a JPEG image at ~108 DPI to maximize size reduction. Once a page is an image, there's no text layer for your PDF reader to select or search.
How much smaller will my PDF get?
Typical savings are 5–10% for Light, 10–20% for Medium, and 40–70% for Heavy. Exact numbers depend on the source file: PDFs already rasterized or heavily optimized may compress less.
Does it work on password-protected PDFs?
Not yet. Remove the password first; we plan to add unlock support soon.
